Cats Haven is unable to accept any new residents at this time. Here are some ideas for placing those cats or kittens that you have.

Here are some ideas to try for placing:

These ideas take time and effort: If you have to re home your pet immediately, your only recourse will be Indianapolis Animal Care & Control.

If you have found an injuried animal; please get the animal to a vet asap or call Indianapolis Animal Care and Control or call the non emergancy police line if after normal working hours.

If this is a found cat or kitten, remember to take it to a vet clinic to be scanned for a microchip, the cat/kitten may be lost.

Post a note with a picture at local vet clinics, community centers and also at the small churches around your home and work
Ads: Place ads in local newspapers, some neighborhoods have their own newspapers.  Nuvo ads have been successful for placing cats over the age of 5 years.
Ads in the free Primetime newspaper has also been successful for older cats
The Humane Society of Indpls no longer euthanizes for space: You do need to schedule an appointment with their Intake counselor.  There is usually a 3 to 5 week wait to be able to surrender your pets.
Yahoo does have some speciality groups for special need (diabetic, etc) cats and kittens that you can post on.

If you are needing to re home a special need cat or kitten please send an email to: catshavenltd@sbcglobal.net   In the email give your name and contact info.  Then a brief description of the age of the cat/kitten, the problem and if the cat/kitten has been seen at a vet clinic.  If it has been to a vet clinic, please give the name and phone number. We will have the vet clinic that handles our special need cats call them. This does not automatically mean that Cats Haven will  take the cat/kitten.  Space is always an issue here, however, there maybe options not given here to help re home it.  Answering your email could take up to 3 days, be patient.

Please note, a cat that is peeing or defecating around your home may have a medical problem and needs to be seen by a vet.  If there is no medical reason, it is then a behavorial issue, which is not a special need. There are medications and litter box re training ideas that may help with this problem.  The Best Friends website has more information.

You can get information on petcare, behavior issues and pet care

When you contact them leave your name, address, major cross street near you, zip code  and about how many cats. You also need to leave a time frame they can call you back.
Example: Jane Doe, 11 Doe St, Keystone& State St, 00001. 4 cats, 1 is pregnant, Tues or Wed evenings from 6-8pm. If the cats are causing problems with/to your neighbors, remember to also mention it.
They are volunteer run, so it may take a few days to have your call returned.

Removal of feral cats

If you are wanting the cats to be removed, then you need to do this on your own.  The Indpls. Animal Care & Control does not have the manpower to do this.
