Raspberry is a resident at Cats Haven, a local no-kill cat shelter. Raspberry (or The RazMan, as he likes to be called) was found in a dumpster several months ago. He was just a tiny baby when he came to Cats Haven; we weren't sure he was going to survive. But not only did he survive, he thrived and now he's appointed himself as Barb's assistant and Shelter Manager! Raspberry greets all visitors to the shelter, and he takes an active role in helping with new kitties. He loves kittens, too, and seems to enjoy babysitting with them. Raspberry has become a VIC (very important cat) at the shelter, and writes in his blog as often as he can, just to keep everyone updated on the shelter happenings!

Busy . . . Busy . . . Busy . . .

Hi, guys! I just realized that it's been about a month since I last wrote in my blog. I can't believe the summer is zipping by so quickly, but taking care of all these kittens certainly helps pass the time. So how have you all been? I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and warm weather . . . and hopefully we're done with all that miserable rain!

I've got lots of shelter news to tell you about. First, we had a great time over July 4th weekend at InConJunction, the annual sci-fi/fantasy event. Barb and Teddy spent three great days promoting the shelter and selling a lot of our gorgeous Gypsy Cat jewelry. 'Wish I could have gone this year, but I had to stay home and tend to all the kittens. We've had a record crop of kittens this year, with 20 more coming into the shelter this past Friday. We've got black one, orange ones, calicos, striped kittens, spotted kittens . . . I'm not sure, but I think we might even have a purple one in the mix somewhere! So Miranda and I have been super busy taking care of all these little guys. Sparkle, the ultimate mom-cat, has been helping out a lot, too. And so has Dzana. She loves the babies.

We had another Kitten Kaboodle at Pet Supplies Plus on Rockville Road a few weeks ago. No one got adopted, but we all had a great time. I hear that Pet Supplies Plus has moved a little further west, and we'll be doing adoptions out there next Saturday. 'Can't wait to see the new store! Foster Mom Chris had two adoptions this past weekend, tho, and Lela keeps getting kitties adopted out, too. My good friend Maurice went to a new home last Sunday, and I hear that someone is interested in three new Organic Mousetraps. Animae seems to have found a new home, too. Congratulations to everyone who has found their familes!

We've got one gal who really needs a home, tho. Her name is Juno, and she's currently hanging out at The Cat Doctor at 56th and Georgetown. Juno is black and white, and very very nice. But she doesn't like other cats, and she really doesn't like dogs. Juno needs a home where she can be an only child, so if you know of anyone who is looking for a single kitty, let us know. Thank you to Dr. Johns for helping Juno find her home!

We had some nice folks from Pet Angels at our last Cat-a-holics meeting. They brought a wonderful pizza dinner for everyone, and did a very nice presentation about their services. Thanks to Pet Angels for coming by. You three gorgeous women are welcome here anytime. Merrrrr-owwwww! :)

Hey, I almost forgot! My friend Alex (Barb's grandson) spent a few days with us. Alex is such a cool guy. He and I played video games, and he tried to teach me to play the violin. That didn't work out too well, tho. It's hard to play that thing with no opposable thumbs. Alex is doing GREAT with his violin, tho. I hope he gets to come back and visit again soon.

We're still looking into grants to help get things done around the shelter. And we're even gonna try to get a new van with grant money! Keep your paws and toes crossed for us. We really need to get the fence put up this year, and we'd still love to have the garage in place before cold weather sets in. Cindy Cox has been slaving away, trying to get these grant proposals written for us so we can continue to fix the shelter house as well as secure the property. Thanks, Cindy!!

I want to extend my personal sympathies to Rebecca Furnish, whose mom passed away a couple of days ago. Rebecca, I'm very sorry for your loss. If you need to talk or come by and hug a kitten or two, we're always here for you. Just let us know what we can do. And to the Other Sue, I am sorry to hear that you lost your friend, Rudy. He was a wonderful guy, and I know you miss him very much. We also lost Willa recently. Willa was a great little black and white gal who lost her life to cancer. We all miss Willa very much, and Barb is still very sad.

I better get back to the kittens. I just can't believe how many we've got! Everyone is more than welcome to come by and play with these guys. They'd love to meet each and every one of you! So I'm off now to help serve Sunday dinner to a gazillion kittens. Wow, just look at all these guys! Later, friends. - Raspberry
